Want to see pygmy seahorses ? Just fundive with us at the dive site “Pyramids” in Amed !
Those little pygmy seehorses of a few cm are hard to find because they take exactly the same colour and texture as their host seafan ! Need good eyes and a good torch. Here in Bali, we have H. bargibanti (see pic) & H. denise.
Another specy of pygmy seehorse has been first discovered and found in Indonesia in Bunaken Marine Park by a local dive guide, Mr. Pontoh, hence his name H. pontohi ! Another one, “the soft coral pygmy seahorse”, is endemic of the Togean islands.
Dr Richard Smith is the world specialist of those cute little guys.
